Tennessee Tech University student volunteers gave free computer training classes for adults in Cumberland, Macon and Warren Counties this summer.  The training, sponsored by the TTU Service Learning Center, included hands-on instruction in the basics of using and operating a computer.  Participants were shown how the Internet works, including how to use the Internet for job hunting.  Instruction was given in the use of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel including resume’ preparation for job seekers. Wes Lisic, summer VISTA for Tennessee Tech, led the community training sessions.  "We developed curriculum that meets people where they are - at whatever knowledge level they are at.  Whether you have never used a computer before, or you have some basic computer understanding, we adapt and tailor our training to assist the individual.  We have also created some invaluable resources for people to take home with them - ensuring that they retain the information we cover and continue to further their technical knowledge of computers and the Internet going further." The TTU Service Learning Center has received so much positive feedback from the sessions that they are in talks of continuing and expanding computer training sessions in the fall of 2010.
